ABOUT THE EVENT
10 Boys and 1 Girl
At this moment in the history of American society, and particularly in the traditional family, individuals face extraordinary personal tensions and challenges. It is to this moment that this performance of “ 10 Boys and 1 Girl” celebrates and affirms the strength, power and tenacity of the nuclear family as a powerful space to train, empower and sustain human ingenuity and resilience.
In an evening of music, spoken word and storytelling, this live performance tells the story of the family of Ennis and Vetta Jacobs, from its incredibly humble beginning in Tampa, Florida, by encapsulating the sheer faith and values of an imperfect, but dedicated union, that embraced 10 African American boys and one African American female. The performance chronicles the parentage, growth and the development of these human figures, and spotlights the investment in this family that resulted in an expansive global influence, in faith based organizations, in government, in business, in education and in entertainment.
This event is dedicated to the affirmation and revitalization of family connection and values, with the hope of bringing these elements back to the center of our communities at this challenging moment in human history.

About The African American Family Institute
The African American Family Institute (AAFI) is designed to create empowered, well balanced, and self-sustaining family institutions. Our mission is to protect and safeguard our children through building self-sustaining family institutions who lead and participate, in the transformation and innovation within their local community. In addition to the "Family Life Symposium", the AAFI is proud to bring to the Tampa Bay area this unique and unforgettable story presented in the form of an inspiring theatrical production titled “10 Boys and 1 Girl”.
Family dynamics are the patterns of interactions between family members that influence family structure, hierarchy, roles, values, and behaviors. Family dynamics have a strong impact on the way children see themselves, others, and the world (source: www.amssa.org). The African American Family Institute will present monthly, courses and curriculum shaping family dynamics, and best practices for family modeling. Roles and responsibilities among family members will be emphasized, while identifying the difference between traditional family models, compared to contemporary family constructs.
